Welcome to Biology Class! I hope that everyone had an enjoyable relaxing summer, and that you are now ready for a productive and fun school year. The topics in the Biology curriculum are challenging and for most people require a big investment in time and thought. Your success in and enjoyment of this class will directly reflect the amount of energy and dedication you invest. I’m looking forward to working with and getting to know each and everyone of you!
Grading
Class Participation ( Random Binder entry checks and BW entries) 5%
Assessments (Tests, Quizzes, CFA's, Checks for Understanding) 40%
Class Work (Bell Work Spot Checks, Projects, Labs, and WS Round-ups 35%
Homework (Homework checks) 10%
Projects/Portfolio/Binder 10%
Recovery and Remediation
Intervention time Monday –Friday 9:44-10:14 after 3rd period
Before school from 6:15-6:45
After school on Tuesday from 2:15-3:00

Material for Class:
CLASSROOM SUPPLIES needed but not required.
Biology bucks will be given for bringing in supplies. Biology bucks are used for extra credit and extensions for late work. The window of time for bringing in supplies is the first two weeks of school.
Paper towels, tissue, Clorox wipes, Glue sticks, package of mechanical pencils, hand sanitizer, hand pencil sharpener, REAM OF COPY PAPER.

Classroom Procedures
Beginning of Class:
You should be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings. This includes:
****DO NOT WAIT FOR THE BELL TO RING****
Bell Work:
There will be bell work everyday for you to complete. You will have 5-10 minutes to complete these short assignments. Bell work can be collected and graded unannounced. Random checks will occur checking for participation and completion of the task. Students who do not begin work promptly and that are off task will receive daily deductions of 5 points. BE VERY DILIGENT WITH PLACING AND ORGANIZING MATERIALS IN YOUR BINDER ACCORDING TO PROCEDURES OUTLINED FOR YOU.
Homework and Classwork Assignments:
These will have a specific due date. These assignments must be placed in the corresponding bins at the beginning of class on the due date. Any time after collection, they are considered late. LATE WORK will receive a 50 point deduction. Biology bucks can used to get a 1day extension for 80% Be sure and bring in supplies from the list to acquire these during the first 2 weeks.
Make-up work:
It is your responsibility to do the following:
** NOTE: If a major test or quiz is announced before your absence, it will be made up in class on the day that you return…NO EXCEPTIONS.
Binder/Notebook:
It is your responsibility to maintain your binder. All relevant notes and handouts should be kept until the end of the each semester. It is suggested that you have dividers for the following sections in your binder: Information Section Tab, Bell work Section Tab and Classwork Section Tab
Computer Use:
Cheating:
Cheating in any form, including plagiarism, will result in a “0” on the assignment and an “N” in conduct. Refer to the Student Handbook for the Honor Code Policy
Classroom Cooperation Plan:
Students are expected to exhibit the highest level of character within the classroom.
Hall Pass:
* Restroom and hall passes are given at my discretion and must not interfere with instruction. If your child has a medical condition, please let me know.
**IF YOU NEED TO USE THE RESTROOM, Do your best to “ GO BETWEEN CLASSES”.
Departure:
Wait for the sound of the bell to leave your desk.
Extra Credit:
1st offense – warning
2nd offense – contact parent/guardian via call, text, or email
3rd offense – referral to grade level administrator
Repeated offenses will be referred to administrator.

- Highlighters
- Box of Colored pencils or markers

- Materials out and on your desk (BIOLOGY BINDER)
- Sharpened pencil or pen to write with if your not using a mechanical pencil
- Bags and backpacks on the floor
- Sitting quietly

- Get make-up work on the day that you return to school from an EXCUSED absence. You can find any assignments or worksheets that you missed along with the topic of discussion in the corresponding make-up work file.
- Read the material in the book covered in the class discussions and lectures.
- Get notes that were covered from a classmate.
- Schedule any make-up tests, quizzes. (Not during class) Intervention time, Before school, Lunch, SH, or After School on Tuesday’s from 2:15-3:15)
- Tests will not be made up during class, unless agreed upon.

Computer Use:
- Computers will be used for research purposes as well as daily lessons. Students will also need access to the Internet for homework and projects. Students who do not have a computer with Internet access will need to make arrangements to use the computer at the public or school library and the computer lab during after school hours.
- You are prohibited from using your smart devices for personal reasons unless given permission.
- Some lessons will require the use of some smart device for participation in activities. (Quizizz, and Kahoot Reviews and Remediation)

Classroom Cooperation Plan:

- Follow all Germantown High School Handbook rules and procedures (dress code, electronic devices, food, etc.).
- Mutual respect.
- Be prompt on time.
- Be in your assigned seats and ready to work when the bell rings (not walking around the classroom or talking to your friends).
- Bags, backpacks, and handbags on the floor.
- Come prepared to learn; bring your supplies (pen, pencil, binder, and all other required materials).
- Stay in your seat. If you need to get out of your seat for any reason…RAISE YOUR HAND. Do not interrupt the teacher during lessons.
- Do not disrupt the learning of others; RAISE YOUR HAND if you have something relevant to say.
- Be respectful to everyone and respect other’s property; my desk, your desk, other’s desks and belongings.
- Checking will not be tolerated.
- No food or drinks (if I see it…it’s mine). The only exception is water bottles.
Hall Pass:

- Please take a minute and check around your desk area to make sure it is clean, and your desk if straight.

Extra Credit:
- There will be opportunities given throughout each quarter to earn extra credit at my discretion. Take advantage of them as they become available! Points will not be given by request.
